AAP’s Bright Futures, 4th Edition Has Been Released. PCC Will Be First Pediatric EHR Vendor To Feature This Updated Content.

WINOOSKI, Vt., Feb. 22, 2017 /PRNewswire/

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has published the 4th Edition of Bright Futures, Guidelines for Health Supervision of Infants, Children, and Adolescents, as well as the 2017 Periodicity Schedule. PCC will be the first pediatric-specific EHR vendor to offer Bright Futures embedded directly into the EHR solution at no additional cost to clients. Recognized as the blueprint for health supervision visits, Bright Futures protocols are an essential part of pediatric care. This resource provides key background information and recommendations for themes critical to healthy child development, along with well-child supervision standards for 31 age-based visits, from newborn through 21 years.

The 4th Edition of Bright Futures features 12 Health Promotion Themes, including these 3 new topics:

  • Lifelong health for families and communities
Health for children and youth with special health care needs
The healthy and safe use of social media

Dr. Joseph Hagan Jr, MD, FAAP, one of the editors of Bright Futures says,

“The AAP’s Periodicity Table tells people what should be done at every visit. Bright Futures seeks to tell people how to do it, and more importantly, how to do it well. We’re really excited about the 4th Edition because it has a number of updates in it, especially regarding evidence.”

Dr. Hagan goes on to share,

“In primary care and preventive medicine, there is a great interest in standardizing what people are told based on evidence. The problem is that there has not always been a lot of evidence for preventive services for children. In the 2008 Bright Futures 3rd Edition there were only 3 evidence-based preventive statements. There is a lot more evidence in this new 4th edition. I would urge people to look at the ‘Evidence and Rationale’ chapter. That is what will drive PCC to help them to set up their visits to follow current guidelines.”

Chip Hart, Director of Pediatric Solutions at PCC says,

“Bright Futures is the Gold Standard for pediatric care, and we couldn’t consider ourselves to be a pediatric EHR vendor and consultant and not have those resources embedded in the very framework of what we do.”
