What is the Sick to Well Visit Ratio?

One of the key clinical measurements of the success of a pediatric practice is the ratio of sick to well visits performed by the practice.

This measurement can be used gauge the potential growth, the preventive nature, and the long-term financial success of a practice. Practices with a high number should examine the style of the practice: Is the desire to run a health clinic, providing immediate care? Is yours a Pediatric sub-specialty practice? If your Sick to Well Visit ratio is high, consider recalling your patients for their physicals.

How Do I Calculate the Sick to Well Visit Ratio for my practice?

For a significant period of time (we recommend at least a year), use your computer system to calculate and divide the total number of Sick Visits by the total number of Well Visits performed by your practice (count any visits where both Well Visit and Sick Visit codes are performed as Well Visits).

PCC clients can calculate this ratio at any time using the PCC Benchmark feature of srs.
