Before diagnosing "asthma" I use the standard definition of two attacks without fever or signs of infection that responds well to bronchodilators. This excludes those young children who wheeze with any viral URI - what years ago was called "wheezing associated respiratory illness" - and what I now label as RAD. Too many of these kids are still labeled "asthmatic." Amazing how many of them "outgrow" their "asthma." Paul Prescott, MD
