I don't think these meters should be used by home visiting nurses as many of these parents have been given instructions to expose their child to sunlight or have a bili blanket. I think inpatient use is the only place where it should be to help save a few heel sticks. All my kids had high bili, a family trait (3 exchange transfusions among my cousins) I can attest an hour in sunlight that took away a good amount of visible jaundice can still have a serum bili of 18.
