Reach Out and Read is a great program. I can say that because I founded
a local site at my previous job, and I still act as medical director for
it. After a year, we've given out approximately 1200 books and had a
great time doing it. Some aspects of ROR are harder to implement (we
have a very difficult time getting volunteers in our area -- could we do
it? Sure, but it's more time than you have sometimes...), but once
you've gotten things going it's great. It also makes for great
publicity, both in terms of the media and word of mouth.
