In significant pain, I'd rather add Tylenol with codeine elixir, approx 1 tsp per 25 lbs. for 3 or 4 dosages total. I think there is significant pain from the structures in the middle ear, not just the pain from a stretched drum. Ear pain can be quite severe. Plus, if the patients with recurrent otitis have some at home, they are less likely to go to the ER at night when the pain starts. -Graham ----- Original Message ----- From: <> To: <> Sent: Tuesday, February 26, 2002 11:52 PM Subject: Re: topical analgesics In a message dated 2/25/2002 1:05:02 PM Eastern Standard Time, writes: > Has anyone tried topical analgesics for Otitis media? > Do you mean as sole therapy, or just for the pain, until the antibiotic starts to work? I use them a lot in addition to antibiotics. Haven't tried them alone yet. Moshe Adler, MD
