Our problem would be office space, so we still use the 23-hour. -Diane, CNP -----Original Message----- From: [SMTP:] Sent: Sunday, August 17, 1997 10:38 PM To: Subject: IV Rehydration in office? We've been tossing this around our office for some time now, and I wondered what others do, if anything. As we gear up for the gastro season (it'll be here soon enough), does anyone out there rehydrate the children in the office with IV's, rather than having to send them into the hospital as a 23 hour admit for fluids? I'm not sure how we would bill, but it sure would have MANY advantages both for pediatrician, child and parents. I truly think that many parents might prefer to sit with the child in the office for up to 4 hours or less, in a rocking chair, rather than have to go through the admission process and having to spend the entire time away from the family so that he/she can stay by the bedside in the hospital. Just curious...ever thought of this? What considerations do we need to make...any thoughts are most appreciated. PS We have an adequate staff (RN's and LPN's) that could initiate and monitor therapy with the doctor's order. Thanks. Karen Kohlruss, BSN RN
