We routinely IV hydrate in the office and in fact have rooms set aside for this within vision of the nursing assistant stations, but I also have residents and students so that I personally only have to put in the IV if no one else can. In a HMO situation (which is the average in our facility) it does not matter what you bill, you save the ED or in-patient stay and you come out way ahead. For billing we bill extended detention for 1 hour but we do have to annotate on the chart as if it were an in-patient to get that billing. Gary Emmett
