Re: Hip Dysplasia

Stephanie,
DDH is very rare in USA, but in my country the incidence is 1% newborns.
The risk factors are a breech position ,positive family history on DDH.
All newborns with the risk factor or positive clinical sign (hip click,
limited abduction, abnormal Barlow, joint laxity) must be examed by hip
ultrasound.
Question #1: Am I missing the boat? Yes, because all say that clinical
exam of hip do not correlate good with US exam of hip.The last is much
correctly.
Question #2: How routinely is everyone using hip ultrasound in this
evaluation, and what degree of satisfaction do you have with the radiologist
in your facility.
I think that routinely using of hip US depends of DDH's incidence. We routinely
screen all newborns.
