In my rural office my nurse doesn't feel comfortable giving shots to less than 1 year old children. I joined the group many years after she did and don't think I'll be able to change much. With the new immunization protocols (in our clinic up to 3 shots a visit in months 2 and 4) we give the injections together. The parents seem to appreciate the speed and the children seem as distressed by the holding as by the injection, time being a factor. In older children we give them the choice and it seems to be split down the middle between not wanting any, not caring, simultaneous, and one at a time. We have not had anyone complain that it felt like we were ganging up. Our policy is to always give a choice and it seems to work. Jonathan Jonathan M. Gilbert, MD
