I recommend the following re: return to day care/school:
Isolated (and probably viral) Fever: Once fever down for 24 hours
Roseola: again once fever down, "assume" not contagious (haven't
consulted Red Book or ID text here- actually for all its utility, the Red
Book seems to lack practical answers to these very questions)
Hand-Foot-Mouth: once fever down and child is improved with no new
vesicles and oral ulcers
Varicella: one week or once all scabbed over if more severe case
Uncomplicated Viral URI:no restriction if no fever
Facial Impetigo: one day of Rx
Head Lice (The lice from hell have made a resurgence with the start of
school):
after Rx (and for "LFH" that means special care - Elemite under shower
cap for the lice from hell- BTW did anybody else get a slick monograph
from the makers of Rid re: resistant lice - I haven't read it yet - but
looks interesting)
and my addition and one I fight Day Cares about constantly,
conjunctivitis - if its clearly viral - I would rather not treat and
would certainly not exclude kid - the same adenoviral disease in
classmate may cause URI not leading to exclusion...if its bacterial or
I'm not sure then one day of Rx.
whew a long post for me...must not be busy enough with household chores
