In the noncompromised preteen, varicella is a relatively benign illness. Given that immunity appears to be more effective with "wild" varicella than with immunization, I personally am not pushing it very strongly (except in high risk patients). My two year old son has not been immunized against varicella and will not be. Steve McNutt, M.D.
