In selected populations, excellent ideas both. Rotavirus is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in the Third World, and a cheap, easily deployed vaccine would do wonders there. In the US, with better nutrition and better access to hydration interventions if needed, I don't see a big need. RSV vaccine for premies and kids with a track record of wheezing, bring it on. For the bigger kids, and the vast majority of kids who have minor illness, it isn't necessary (IMHO). Robert Wack MD
