To reply to the group, use "" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Before medical school i worked at the Fox Chase Cancer Center under Dr. Barry Blumberg who won the nobel peace prize for his discovery of the australia antigen which turned out to be the hep b surface antigen. my immediate supervisor was Dr. Irv Millman who developed the killed cell vaccine and sold it to Merck for processing and distribution. We had 2 in our group who did not make antibodies to the vaccine inspite of multiple boosters. They were both african american and the problem was thought to be some kind of HLA subtype discrepancy. Then we decided to try to booster them in the arm (the shots were given in the butt, originally) and they both responded after that. I have not heard of this problem with the recombinant vaccine.
