But food allergies can lead to eustacian (sp) tube dysfunction which can
permit viral and/or bacterial overgrowth in the middle ear.

I've seen kids with recurrent AOM undergo allergy skin testing, remove
offending foods from the diet, and suddenly go months or years without
another episode of OM.  But the child has to be truly significantly atopic
for it to make a difference.
