Public schools at least here in LA do not have a full time nurse. Most have a nurse one day a week. I personally know of the largest elementary magnet school where children have attended all year without providing proof of immunization, children with fractures have been put on the bus because parents refuse to pick up including one with a skull fracture-dizzy,nauseous and incoherent who later deteriorated on the bus, lice is ever present and children are without basis services. The schools do not know who is immune suppressed nor even who is on chemo. I have taken children to clinics myself who were trying to use binoculars to see the blackboard and others who needed dental care. In addition, some children do not feel up to attending when first breaking out with varicella. Are these children to sit in the main office all day? There is no other provision for sick children.
