Anyone else been getting into discussions (especially with parents) about the book "On Becoming Babywise" by Ezzo? I read an article in AAP news about the link between this parenting book and dehydration, failure to thrive. I had no idea what a hot topic it is. Apparently, Ezzo is not a physician but a preacher/theologian of some sort. The book has Christian roots and promises parents that if they follow the "parent directed feeding" technique in the book, their child will sleep through the night by the age of 2 months. VERY attractive to a lot of sleep deprived, first-time parents. I had a very lengthy discussion with the parents of a 36 week baby yesterday. They really want to follow this technique because it worked for "all" of their friends. I don't know....seems like it's too good to be true and if there's ANY question about safety....well, I wouldn't try it on my daughter. Eve H. Switzer, M.D.
