Re: IPV Vs OPV

As a medical student, I did learn how to give shots...However, it is the LEAST
favorite thing I can think of to do (right up there with stubborn tick
removal..) and my EXCUSE for not personally giving them is that "this way I am
not the "bad guy" :)
Furthermore, my nurse has been doing it for over 20 yrs...roughly 3 times
longer
than I have been in practice!!!!
I admit to missing the beginning of all the IPV vs OPV discussion...But
when are "they" going to give up an immunization to Polio altogether!??
According to most "experts" at recent ID meetings I have attended (NYC and
Boston..) "they" really don't have a good answer for this one!! And
especially since the "all IPV" schedule doen't cover "wild virus" at
all......and it seems the only Polio seen in the USA is vaccine related (OPV).
I'd vote for neither if I had any "say " in it!!!
