pretreated sore throats

What do you do if a kiddo comes in with a 2 or 3 day history of a sore
throat and fever and he has been pretreated at home with some left over meds
from a sib, or the parent is a vet and used some doggie amoxicillan (not
the same one that de-brained the rabinous horse) and your strep is negative
and it probably was viral but, who knows... do you give in and tell them to
treat as if strep- for 10 days or what? This happens more often than I'd
like. Kim Burlingham, MD
