I have a few patients who "faint at the sight of blood"...I even have one who
can faint when DISCUSSING any "bloody" topic!! From the limited articles I
have been able to find...It is recommended to either do nothing (ie "watch")
or get an EKG, on the remote chance it is prolonged QT syndrome...
Your patient could have had an exagerated vagal response from getting up
too quickly AND the sight of blood....
As an aside, my sister, on a 3rd grade class trip to a hospital blood
bank, fainted at the sight of all the blood in the blood bank ....Now she is
an ICU Trauma nurse!!!
I guess you can "out grow" this!!! ?
