My fear was that someone was over-reacting and costing the family a bucket of unnecessary money -- and they just don't have it. I passed along the universal comment from here to the mother, since I know she shares the unversal fear of mothers: risk to child vs. risk to checkbook. This doesn't relieve the fear that the tests will actually find something wrong, of course, but at least she knows the tests are a reasonable and prudent course given the situation. Thank you all!
