Sorry about the Happy99.exe email. I let a friend use my laptop over the past weekend. Under severe questioning he finally admitted to running "somethin called Happy something - it was just fireworks!" 25 years of home computing and I've never been infected by a virus, worm, trojan, etc. Live & learn. I've disinfected my system and did a DOD level disk wipe of the swap file, free space, and file slack space. It's clean. For those of you who may have run HAPPY99 and DON'T have an anti-virus package, here's how to manually remove it. You may have to do this under DOS instead of Windows. All files are located in the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory: 1. DELETE files SKA.EXE and SKA.DLL 2. Check that you have a file called WSOCK32.SKA. IF SO: a. DELETE file WSOCK32.DLL b. RENAME WSOCK32.SKA to WSOCK32.DLL IF NOT: a. DELETE file WSOCK32.DLL and reload it from your Windows CD. If you need help contact me. 3. ANYONE you sent an email to while infected will receive a copy of HAPPY99.EXE. Immediately notify them NOT to run it! Again, sorry for the headaches. Paul R Prescott, MD
