While it is true that the vast majority of people around the world co-sleep, this is usually out of necessity and not choice. Additionally, in North America we also have ridiculously small nuclear families with no supports in-house (i.e. extended family members), sleep deprivation as a cultural norm, and crazy daytime schedules as well. My advice to parents? Don't feel guilty about creating independent sleep habits in your child. Your sanity may be saved by it and your kids will not become social deviants because they slept alone!
