We've seen quite a few croup cases in the past 3 weeks. Decadron syrup is not available through all of the pharmacies here in town. Also, the available liquid forms are dilute and require a large volume dose for a typical toddler at 0.6 mg/kg. Decadron does come in several tablet sizes and can be given crushed in applesauce, etc. I've used the 4 mg size with some success. Tricia Deffner, M.D.
