For some reason this journal is slow getting onto OVID..but here is a topical

As far as I know there is a seasonal increase in SIDS deaths.  I think the
biggest problem with SIDS is that it is multi-factorial.
Prone sleeping is only a piece of the puzzle and infection may be an even
smaller piece of that.  Nobody knows for sure.

No I was not at Duke in the early 90's but remember going through some major
trepidation requesting folks to start putting infants
 on their backs or sides.  Fortunately most of the nursery nurses were willing
to use a side position.
I think it may have been harder for those of us that had already raised our own
kids prone..
Almost like telling grandmothers that 2 week old infants really don't need rice
cereal in their bottles.
