Thanks to all for your information. I am concerned about prescribing Diflucan, as the drug reps and manufacturers are adamant against its use during breastfeeding and in infants less than 6 months of age. See www.diflucan.com A big drawback is that it is VERY expensive, especially considering the duration of treatments recommended by Hale and Newman. Also, this information is dated January 98, almost 2 years old. I did a medline search, looking for some published studies. Most of what was out there was work done in Europe, South Africa etc and it dealt with systemic thrush in NICU's, certainly a different picture than the average newborn. I think I'll stick with the Nystatin gtts / Nystatin ointment for 14 days with a MR, giving parents info about the option of GV 1% (very messy, hard to find, but cheap, works). Seems like the best idea is to nip it in the "bud". Also, for Palm Pilot fans (got mine and LOVE it) try these sites: ----- Original Message ----- From: Cindy Curtis, RN, IBCLC <> To: <> Sent: Friday, October 08, 1999 12:30 PM Subject: thrush URL's > Here are a few URL's that may be of interest to those of you interested in > thrush management: > > http://www.erols.com/cindyrn/yeast.htm > http://www.erols.com/cindyrn/20.htm > http://mamafed.com/thrush.shtml > http://www.oz.net/~chotii/fighting_thrush.html > > > > Cindy > > Cindy Curtis,RN,IBCLC > mailto: > http://www.erols.com/cindyrn > > > group. >
