Panther’s Apple Remote Desktop
Panther’s Apple Remote Desktop
Recently I was having problems with an older iBook G3 running Panther and trying to get Apple’s “Remote Desktop Client” to work. I dunno why they call it “client” as it’s really a server! Anyway, I would go into System Preferences -> Sharing and enable the remote desktop service, check off all the neat options but could *not* find the section where you set a password up? Very strange.
It wasn’t until I read this page:
Install and use
Apple's free dual-screen VNC server
... that I learned what the problem was: I needed to install an update! Hard to believe that this “recent” update was from 2004.
Anyway, click on Remote Desktop Client 2.1 and get the update. After you install that *THEN* you can go back into the System Preferences and play around setting up ARD. It works great! For a client, you can use almost anything. I’ve been using Mocha Lite on my iPhone, and on a Mac you would probably use:
Sourceforge: Chicken of the VNC
Good luck!
